The 2021 South Plains Airshow has a tentative date set for June 12, 2021. The effort for the airshow begins and potentially ends with fundraising. If you are interested in sponsoring the airshow, please contact the museum.

The Fly-in Lunch and garage sale on June 13th was a great success. It raised the necessary funds for a big addition to the museum. The new addition will be revealed in the next update once it has arrived. We are fortunate that we were able to hold the event as most others have been cancelled. The Fly-in brought in a few other warbirds that were tempted by some BBQ. The WASP Museum BT-13 and UC-78 came from Sweetwater, a T-6 from the CAF came from Midland, and a private BT-13 and T-34 came from Amarillo.

All of the aircraft except the PT-26 have completed their yearly inspections and are returned to flying condition for another year. The PT-26 is having a planned maintenance cycle that is expected to take about a year. The aircraft will be recovered with new fabric and the fuselage repainted, landing gear rebuilt and some cockpit updates made. It will also be getting a new wood propeller that has already arrived.

The member owned T-6 Texan has returned from the paint shop and looks fantastic. It is painted as an aircraft that was lost in a landing accident in May of 1944 at the US Army Air Corp base in Mid Wallop, England. The represented aircraft served in the 15th Recon Squadron as a squadron hack aircraft. The airplane would have been used for currency training and to attend meetings across England. The 15th Recon Squadron was essential in acquiring photos of the Normandy coast as well as other portions of France in preparation for D-Day.

Members have also cleaned up the yard behind the maintenance building as apart maintenance and updating the Museum’s appearance.

The L-4 is has been moved into the maintenance building for final assembly and paint. Stay tuned for photos.

As always stop by any Friday afternoon or all day Saturday and come see us!
